Gina Crawford SPring 2014 update from Europe

Hi John,

I hope you are well. I just wanted to send you a quick update. I am currently in Europe and have just completed my first races. I did a trio of half iron distance races in 15 days. Challenge Rimini (4th place), Ironman 70.3 France (3rd place ), Ironman 70.3 Austria (4th place). The first one I did not feel great as I was not race fit enough but it was a good wake up call. I came out of the swim in first place, the bike was very challenging and technical. I love climbing but my descending is terrible and I lost too much time here and then my run did not feel great. The highlight was crossing the line with my son on Mothers' Day.

The second was a much better performance. I came out of the swim in first, rode really well on a very technical and challenging course, only being passed by one athlete (Tine Deckers) who is outstanding on these types of courses. I ran much better, couldn't quite catch Tine and lost a place to Jeanne Collenge who ran a 1.18 run split.

Then this weekend I did my best half ironman performance, but it was only good enough for 4th. I came out the water in 1st, rode very well and came into transition in 2nd, and then ran my best half marathon but was beaten by other athletes that were outstanding runners (one of them ran a 1.16!)

Now I have 3 weeks to focus on my ironman training. This block of races has given me a good boost in strength and speed and now I am biking and running on a much better level than when I arrived in Europe 4 weeks ago. I will race Challenge Kraichgau on June 15th, Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg on June 22 and then my main focus will be Ironman Frankfurt July 6.

Thanks for your support! Gina
