Gina Crawford 2nd in 2014 NZ Ironman

Hi John,

I hope you are well. In the weekend as you probably know I raced Ironman New Zealand. I had a great race, a good swim for me (although I started the bike ride 5 mins down on Meredith Kessler who is just phenomenal in the swim) and then had to chase all day. Meredith as you know is such a top class athlete, the best swim/biker in the world at the moment. I had a great bike ride (the changes I have made to my technique are starting to pay off now) and lost only another 1.5 min to her (a great improvement on last year when I lost 6 mins). I then headed onto the run and we ended up with the exact same run split. I had felt very good and got the time down to 3 min 50 sec but I have just started working on changing my running technique and I could only hold the changes together for half of the race. In the end I placed second but my time was a PB and was the 3rd fastest time in the 30 year history (and the bike was not a fast year with a lot of wind and slower bike splits). So I am definitely travelling in the right direction. Hopefully later in the year with more time spent adapting to these changes I can put together a really good race. We are heading to Europe in May through to July . I will race 4 half iron distance events (Challenge Rimini, Ironman 70.3 Pays d Aix France, Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau Germany, Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg) in my build up to Ironman Frankfurt.

Thanks so much for your support, Gina
