Cameron Brown Auckland 70.3 What can go wrong

January 2013

Today's event was not a day I was hoping for at the Auckland 70.3 Half Ironman Asia Pacific Champs with bad luck again playing havoc with me. A solid swim had me out of the water in the 2nd group 1:50 down on the main pack. I rode strongly throughout the 90km bike ride with the highlight being the crossing of the Auckland Harbour Bridge, the winds were behaving themselves so we didn't get knocked around too much crossing the harbour.

At the last turn around point on the bike ride I was given a penalty for drafting riding into the corner along with two other athletes, a bogus call by the official but nothing I could do about it when you're lapping age groupers out on the course. Then with 5km to go I punctured, I used my pitstop repair can but the tire stayed flat so I was forced to run with my bike for the final 2-3km. I was well behind in the end but know my form is there as I head into my final 6 weeks before Ironman New Zealand. Some big training weeks ahead. I'll be in touch soon with how the training is going.

Kind Regards Cameron Brown
