Gina Crawford wins Challenge Wanaka for 5th time

January 2013

Hi John,
Just a quick note to let you know how my race went in Wanaka. I won my 5th title, broke my course record and bike course record. It was a super tough day, the roughest swim I have ever swum in, I came out in first with a 30sec lead over Jo Lawn and Kate Bevilaqua. Once onto the bike I felt great and built a considerable lead coming off the bike with a 17min lead and breaking the bike course record. I biked only 16min slower than the fastest male. Onto the run I held it together to break my own course record by 4 min and to finish 20 min ahead of Candice Hammond and Jo Lawn who had to sprint for 2nd and 3rd. I am super excited to have won this challenging honest course on the bike.
Now I will rest for a week and then begin my training towards Ironman New Zealand March 2nd. I would love to regain this title which I last won in 2009.
I hope you are well! Thanks for your continual support, Gina
