Power at the crank - Peter Murphy
"They Must be good. New 30 second power record in road race yesterday."
The above email from Peter Murphy conveys a story reflecting several years of innovation, development, testing, not a little frustration, but eventual success. He's referring of course to the new Keywin Carbon pedal.
It's easy to refer to weight savings, lower profiles, and platform stability - but does all the theory actually make any difference in the real world? Well the indications are the answer is a resounding yes!
In two short sentences Peter places another, very important piece in the jigsaw. He landed a silver in the NZ Time Trial Champs a couple of weeks ago on the CRM pedals - so it's clear he's got good form. But what leads to a new personal power record a few days later? A change of pedal suddenly brings an increase at the crank. This is the holy grail we've been chasing for near 30 years.
Other tests from Canada are already reporting the CRM as the most efficient pedal at transferring the rider's efforts into the crank - now we've gone better.
Although we place efficency and performance above all else, there are other aspects which are important and we try to address them all. The pedal is a great "looker" and superbly comfortable. As anyone who knows me will testify, in cycling terms at 71 I'm a bit past my use by date, but even I can manage over 800 racing kms in a week in absolute comfort with the Carbons. No foot, ankle, knee or anything else in pain. This comes from the best stability and the best radial control system in pedals available - in our view miles ahead of anything alse.
You can add to that six axle lengths, massive cleat/shoe adjustability, and super comfort packing to compensate for differing leg lengths and riding styles. This comfort also leads to greater performance when races are long and hard.
Try them - you won't be disappointed.
